Mercedes-Benz Announces Abandonment Of Fully Autonomous Plan For 2030

Last week, Mercedes-Benz announced that due to continued sluggish market demand for electrification, its electrification target will be postponed to at least 2030, by which time pure electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles will account for 50% of its fleet.

Previously, Mercedes-Benz had promised to be fully electrified by 2030, by which time its internal combustion engine models would forever go down in history.

The sudden change of plan is not only due to the sharp slowdown in the global growth of the electric vehicle market, but also to the sluggish sales of its own electrified products.

The latest data shows that Mercedes-Benz pure electric model sales will only account for 11% of total sales in 2023. Specifically in the Chinese market, Mercedes-Benz delivered less than 50,000 new energy models last year, while Audi only delivered about 30,000 vehicles.  

In the past few years, the electric vehicle plans announced by the world's giants have led to repeated remarks that "fuel vehicles are dying". However, to this day, judging from the market performance, fuel vehicles are still holding strong and will not die for a while. And judging from Mercedes-Benz's announcement to abandon its all-electric vehicle plan, there is even a vast existing market and consumer group for fuel vehicles.
